An Advanced Practitioner is an osteopath who has extended skills and knowledge gained through either additional qualifications
and/or proven work experience within a particular focus area.

To be formally recognised as an Advance Practitioner, an osteopath must have extensive experience and ensure that they exceed the annual mandatory continued learning and training requirements outlined by government agencies. Only when this has been completed, will their application be reviewed by the peak association representing osteopaths and two other external health practitioners. To maintain an Advanced Practitioner status, an osteopath undertakes this process every three years. Advanced Practitioner status can currently be achieved in the following focus areas:

  • Paediatrics
  • Sports Management
  • Exercise-based Rehabilitation
  • Occupational Health, work injury prevention, management and rehabilitation
  • Pain Management
