September is Pain Awareness Month, a timely reminder of the impact chronic pain has on the lives of millions of Australians. Pain can significantly interfere with daily activities, affecting everything from work to enjoying personal relationships. At Osteopathy Australia, we’re dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of understanding and managing pain. Recognising the signs and seeking appropriate care, including osteopathy, as part of a comprehensive plan may help you take proactive steps toward managing your pain and improving your quality of life.
During September, we are focusing on empowering you with knowledge and tools that may assist in managing life with pain.
Osteopathy Australia commissioned a study to determine how the Australian public manages pain. The study revealed that:
- 1 in 6 Australians (16%) live with chronic pain every day.
- 1 in 6 tradies (16%) have sought treatment for a work-related injury.
- Back pain is by far the greatest concern (44%), followed by headaches/migraine (25%), neck pain (24%), and shoulder pain (23%).
Living with pain can be incredibly challenging and may impact various aspects of your life. We’ve put together some common causes of pain and ways that osteopathy might assist.
Osteopathy may help in relieving pain and supporting overall wellbeing as part of a long-term management plan. The goal of osteopathy is to assist in pain management, support your body’s natural healing processes, and provide education about better self-care and prevention. Consider consulting an osteopath, in collaboration with other healthcare providers, to explore how osteopathy might assist you.
